Energy Capital Ventures is excited to announce our 2023 Intern Class: Nate Johnson, Matt Steggeman, Su Zhang, Ryan Karlin, and Rex Anderson. With backgrounds and experience covering engineering, public policy, decarbonization, finance and supply chain topics, the intern class assists with deal sourcing, investment research and thesis development to decarbonize and digitally transform the natural gas industry. Each Intern brings unique talents and experience to assist the ECV team with our Green Molecules™investment thesis and advocacy.
Nate Johnson is a second year MBA candidate at Chicago Booth. Prior to business school, he was a management consultant with BCG in Boston, primarily supporting clients in the private equity, energy, and industrial goods sectors. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. Nate is returning for his second intern engagement with ECV.
Matt Steggeman joins us with engineering, process automation and product management experience. His prior work experience includes the automotive and HVACR industries. Matt has worked with Emerson Electric, Toyota and Tesla. Currently he is pursuing a dual degree, MBA + MS Design Innovation at Kellogg Northwestern, majoring in finance and following the sustainability pathway.
Prior to joining ECV, Su Zhang worked as an ESG Analyst for the China Alliance of Social Value Investment (CASVI) and held various internship positions in Venture and Corporate finance. She brings her knowledge and experience from the policy field, as well as the non-profit and finance sides of sustainability to ECV’s research and investment strategy. Su is a Master of Public Policy student in Finance and Environment & Energy at the University of Chicago and holds a BA in Economics from William & Mary.
Ryan is a licensed professional engineer who previously spent seven years at Black & Veatch executing projects and consulting clients in the utility industry. He also brings his experiences fostering decarbonization innovation in the infrastructure industry through his involvement with Black & Veatch’s IgniteX Accelerator. Ryan is pursuing his MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas.
Rex Anderson joins us with a background in Supply Chain Management from multiple industries. Before joining ECV, he served as an MBA Sustainability Intern in the textile/apparel industry, where he developed a comprehensive analysis of supply chain and product traceability and worked to reduce emissions from primary and secondary packaging. Rex is pursuing his MBA and MS in Sustainability Management from Stevens Institute of Technology and has a BS in Finance and Supply Chain Management from Syracuse University.
